Have been here two nights out of six. Last night a bug ran across my face, woke me from a dead sleep. I squished it and flipped on the lights. Took it to the front counter. Staff seemed disgusted, but upon return to our room after being out all day our room didn't look like it had been properly torn apart to check for bugs. Our bed was just pulled up. The covers weren't even straight. Pretty nervous to go to bed. Yuk! Also, we had to dismantle the toilet because it just ran after flushing.
If things change, I will retract my review.
Having said that, I've stayed at and visited hundreds of our hotels and this one stands out to me as one of the nicest Courtyards I've seen. They're right on the river and have a nice outside patio area that leads down to the water. Their lobby is up to date and the staff is very welcoming. We were there to visit with family who were staying there, so we didn't really get to see their rooms, but the rest of the property leads me to believe they're very nice, indeed.
The last thing I will add is that I saw nobody over the age of 25 on the staff. I don't know if I ever saw the manager but it seems as though they have a staff of younger people inefficiently running this hotel. The executive chef has the title of "sir" and when I asked of he was a knight the girl at the front desk chuckled a bit and then said yes... I'm still not sure. You know how kids are.
Full disclosure: I work for Marriott at their call center.
For us, the most ridiculous moment came in the morning when we went to the lobby and saw their breakfast spread, which was a little bit less than what you get for free at Holiday Inn Express - and they want to charge $12.95 for it. Seriously?
Location and scenery hit the bullseye. Beautiful area behind the hotel that features a winding section of the river. Big open yard with a few games, a deck and a fire pit. The pool was nice and clean. Where improvement was needed was guest service. We had to wait an hour after check in for our three rooms to be ready and the reservations were made months ago. There is complimentary drinks on Fridays and free breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. We were told it was on the weekends only when they were busiest and at full occupancy. Rooms are cheaper on the weekends too. We stayed Sunday through Thursday. The rationale seems strange to cut rates and give away food for days you're sure to fill rooms. Monday -Thursday is when you have to work to get guests in but this place does the opposite. It's mind boggling. The best they have on site is paying close to $5 for cereal.
It's a nice setting, so they have that going for them. Other than that, for the price ($220.00 a night) it's incredibly disappointing. It's not very clean, the rooms are small and the bed was old and worn in.
The hotel is situated at a nice location. The little beach at the back of the hotel was quaint play spot for my son. However, the room was not clean....there were long hairs on the bathroom floor when we check in. When I asked the housekeeping to come up and clean further, they never came. Also, the walls were pretty thin, you can hear kids running, laughing, late into the night. It might be because it was summer time, but we wish it was just a bit more clean and quiet.
Either way the surroundings out weigh the poor management. That says a lot about how nice the grounds are as the staff is low grade.
This is a Marriott! I expect more.
